Dakṣināmūrty is the Ādi Guru in our philosophy. A form of Śiva who taught the four children of Brahma (Sanaka, Sananda, Sanātana and Sanat Kumāra). It’s said that the teachings were through silence with the students comprehending everything without any doubts:
Ādi Śankarācārya has composed a brief set of 10 ślokas praising the greatness of Dakṣiṇāmūrty. Dakshinamurthy stotram is considered to be one of the best works of Ādi Śankarācārya bringing out the essence of Advaita Siddhānta. Through a set of 10 ślokas the ācārya has practically discussed Advaita Siddhānta in multiple dimensions. Prof. Mahadevan has elaborated on this through a series of 16 lectures explaining each Shloka in detail.
